Editorial Services
First Three Chapters Critique
An affordable option that helps you start your book off well, this service gives you an in-depth developmental edit of your first three chapters.
It includes an assessment of your hook, pacing, character set up, plot set up, and voice.
What you’ll get:
- An editorial letter (5 pages) with notes on what’s working or not working and suggestions for how to improve the manuscript.
- In-manuscript edits and comments that ask questions, point out problems, and celebrate the amazing parts.
First Three Chapter Critiques start at $200 CAD for up to 20 manuscript pages.
*A manuscript page is approx. 250 words and is based on standard manuscript formatting in Microsoft Word (double-spaced, one-inch margins, 12pt standard font such as Times New Roman).
Manuscript Evaluation
A thoughtful assessment of the manuscript’s strengths and weaknesses, this service gives you an assessment of the overall manuscript, its fit into the chosen genre, and its marketability.
It includes a brief assessment of the elements of story like theme, plot, characters, dialogue, pacing, tension, and setting.
What you’ll get:
- An editorial letter (up to 20 pages) with notes on what’s working, what’s not working, and suggestions for how to make the book even better.
- This does not include changes to the manuscript or corrections to spelling and grammar.
Manuscript Evaluations start at $800 for up to 70,000 words.
Developmental Edit
More intensive than the manuscript evaluation, a developmental edit is a full story-level edit of your manuscript. It digs into the craft of writing and storytelling to tell a story in the best way possible.
This service is an in-depth assessment of elements of story like theme, plot, characters, dialogue, pacing, tension, and setting. It includes suggestions on how to clarify or reorganize a manuscript for content and structure, and identifies things like plot holes and leaps in logic.
What you’ll get:
- An editorial letter (up to 20 pages) with notes on what’s working, what’s not working, and suggestions for how to improve the manuscript.
- In-manuscript edits and comments that ask questions, point out problems, suggest solutions, and celebrate the amazing parts.
- This does not include corrections to spelling and grammar.
Developmental Edits start at $0.035 CAD per word.
