My two current reads could not be more different. Except, somehow, they both have a man with a terrible reputation who is actually really kind and sweet but emotionally damaged from his heartbreaking past.

Just goes to show how romance (and romantasy) authors can take the same tropes and use them in complete different stories.

Don’t be afraid to play with tropes and character archetypes. They exist for a reason.

Prioritizing your writing when life gets busy (like during the holidays...or let’s be real all the time if you have a job, a family, friends, a pet....) can be challenging.

But there are ways to help you succeed. Here are four ways to help you prioritize your writing.

1. Switch your mindset from finding time to write to making time to write. This is the first step to making your writing time as important as everything else in your life. Unless we choose to MAKE time for writing and set that time aside with intention, it will too often be pushed to the back of the to-do list.

2. Schedule your writing time in your calendar and treat it like any other appointment. This helps you set the expectation for yourself and have a clear boundary for others to recognize that writing time is important. Try choosing one or two times each week to schedule an hour or two of writing time.

3. Get a writing accountability buddy. Make plans to write together (virtually or in-person) and set deadlines to send pages to one another. Research shows that we are up to 95% more likely to reach a goal if we tell someone about it and set a deadline to update them on our progress.

4. Set realistic goals so you know what you’re working toward. Having a clear big goal and doable micro-goals to get you there can make something that seems impossible feel a lot more doable. It also gives your reasons to celebrate along the way. Adding deadlines to your goals helps add positive pressure to focus and prioritize those tasks.

Celebrate when you succeed.

Don’t feel guilty when you don’t.

Be gentle to yourself and try out different times, schedules, and even accountability buddies until you figure out what works best for your brain and your life.

And if you need some help making writing a priority in your life so you can get that romance novel on the page and perhaps even on the shelf, having a book coach can help. Afterall, spending money on something helps you prioritize it too. ;) DM me or head to my website, to learn more.

I helped Molly with her query package—and she signed with a literary agent.

Here's what she had to say about working with me:

"Trisha’s query coaching was invaluable in my journey to finding my agent. There was so much I didn’t know about querying, but after five rounds of query and synopsis revision, Trisha’s personalized list of agents, and our strategy call, I felt excited and prepared to query my book. And it worked—after four months of querying, during which Trisha celebrated every full request with me and supported me through my rejections, I signed with an agent who is a perfect match for me and my book. I would recommend Trisha to any author embarking on a querying journey."

Traditional publishing isn't for everyone. But if it's your dream, I'd love to help you start the querying process with confidence and a support system. DM me for more details on what that could look like.

One of the best parts of my job is seeing my client's success. One week ago @brennabaileybooks released her third romance novel!

I've had the absolute pleasure of working with Brenna on all three books in her Juniper Creek Golden Years series and I couldn't be more delighted to celebrate the release of this new instalment in her collection of cozy, queer, small town romances.

Everyone deserves a happy ever after, and that most definitely includes queer folk of all ages, cultures, and races.

Head over to Brenna's account to order her books directly from her, or order a copy from your favourite local bookseller.

Happy Release Day @brennabaileybooks!

Wishing On Winter is a cozy, romantic Hallmark movie in book form. It features protagonists in their 70s, an adorable small town, and is also delightfully queer. Evvie is one of my favourite protagonists that I have ever read. I want to be her friend.

This book (and the entire series of which this is number 3) is absolutely delightful. It’s a holiday romance full of winter joy and I was honoured to have played a small role in helping Brenna bring this book into its best form.

If you love holiday romances or books that feature folks later in life falling in love, you’re gonna want to grab a copy of this book.

What have you been reading?

In the last month or so, I've read these books either in print, digital, or audio. I'm not picky about format.

💗 The Fiancee Farce by Alexandria Bellefleur
💗 Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez
💗 Mixed Feelings by B.K. Borison
💗 In The Weeds by B.K. Borison
💗 Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
💗 Booked on a Feeling by Jayci Lee
💗 A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a Demon by Sarah Hawley

It's a fun mix of romance tropes and pairings and subgenres.
