Novel (in print): The Unbinding of Mary Reade by Miriam McNamara
I put this book down for a few weeks while I dove into my stack of graphic novels and then got pulled into Kate Morton’s new book (see below). But I’m loving being back in this book and following along with Mary. The story jumps between “present day” (aka 1719, when Mary is disguised as a boy on a ship of pirates) and 1717, when Mary was in London, before she joined a crew and hit the seas. It’s a really intriguing story – why is she pretending to be her brother? And what happened to him?

Novel (in print): The Clockmaker’s Daughter by Kate Morton
Gah! I love Kate Morton novels. And this is her newest one (out October 9) I was lucky enough to win a copy in a Simon and Schuster Canada giveaway in August. I just finished this on the weekend and my review will hopefully be up on Friday this week. It’s an intricately woven series of stories that all meet up. Each character is connected to another or to the gorgeous Birchwood Manor. In 1862 a woman was killed during a robbery, her artist fiancé went mad, but what really happened? And what happened to the artist’s model?
What do you think you’ll read next?
I’m not sure! I have a huge stack of books to read – both ones I was sent for review and others that I just really want to read. I’ll see how I’m feeling once I finish Mary Reade and choose a book based on that.
