Hey hey hey. It’s been ages since I last played in the sandbox of WWW Wednesday. I’m trying to catch up on my reading. Here’s what I’ve been reading lately.

What are you currently reading?

The Unbinding of Mary Reade by Miriam McNamara

Novel (in print): The Unbinding of Mary Reade by Miriam McNamara

A story about a girl who disguises herself as a boy so she can be a  sailer. But she turns pirate and then falls in love with Anne Bonny. The book is based on the true story of notorious lady pirates. How cool is that?! I’ve been told this book is full of adventure and romance. I’ve just started it, so we’ll see how it goes.

What did you recently finish reading?

Small Town Rumors by Carolyn BrownNovel (in print): Small Town Rumors by Carolyn Brown

I finished this book on Sunday. It was a fun romance about a woman who returns to her hometown in Texas and has to navigate the gossips, her not-so-great relationship with her mother, her new life direction, and a romance with someone her parents do not approve of. There were some issues for me though. Read about them in next week’s book review.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Game of Secrets by Kim FosterNovel (in print): Game of Secrets by Kim Foster

I was lucky enough to get this book for review and I’m stoked to read it. I think it will be my first #BoutofBooks read. It’s about a society where some people are called Tainted, meaning they are born with special abilities that society is afraid of. There is a secret group who are training Tainted people to be assassins. But Felicity just wants to find and save her brother. It sounds cool.

  1. Hallo, Hallo Trisha Jenn!

Of the stories you’ve listed, the one which interests me most is The Unbinding of Mary Reade – mostly as I am ILL’ing Black Sails via my local library – off a rec by a fellow appreciator of #piratefiction. I introduced her to the fact the Living Dead Dolls created an Anne Bonny doll in homage to the lady pirate and that is how we started chatting about our love of pirates! This one just seems like an extension of interest for this other convo I’ve had recently! I’ll let her know about the book whilst I plan to see if my library has a copy as it would be fitting after I read my first #piratefiction Suspense novel which is The Bloody Black Flag by Steve Goble! I’m unsure if it will be too intense for me or too gory… we shall see! Yours sounds rather brill!!

I recently finished reading “Dream of the Navigator” which is pinned ontop of my blog and on my Profile on Twitter. It is not your typical Dystopian novel which is what made it such a brilliant read for me! I blogged the top anchour about my misgivings about Dystopian Lit overall and why this particular story struck several chords of interest whilst firmly keeping itself anchoured inside it’s own unique ‘niche’ of where genre-bent Dystopian fused with Sci-Fantasy elements is the kind of book I have trouble ‘letting go’ of once it concludes!!

    • It’s really interesting! I’m excited to see where it goes. 😄 If you have an idea for a pirate novel, write it!! I haven’t seen that many and would love to have another to read. When you’ve got a draft, look me up for developmental editing on my editing website, trishajennedits.com 🙂
