  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?
It’s my first WWW Wednesday of 2018! I can’t believe it’s almost the end of January — where has the time gone? I’ve managed to get a bit of reading done so far, thanks to the Bout of Books read-a-thon. Here’s what I’m up to these days.

What are you currently reading?

alex approximately by Jenn BennettNovel (in print): Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett

This super fun, super cute YA novel is about 17-year-old Bailey who moves from the east coast of the USA to California to live with her dad. And, the guy she’s friends with online in a movie discussion forum, whose real name she doesn’t know (and who she really likes) happens to live in the same town as her dad. She’s not sure if she wants to meet him in person. Turns out, the guy at her new summer job who she can’t stand, just happens to be Alex, approximately. Fun rom-com here I come. I’m really enjoying it so far!

help thanks wow by anne lamottNon-fiction (in audio): Help Thanks Wow: The Three Essential Prayers  by Anne Lamott

This book is lovely and full of lines that I want to mull over. But, I think I need to read it again, but in print. It’s the kind of book that you need to read slowly and digest over time. And, listening to it in audio doesn’t quite work for it — you can’t reread the same line over a few times to let it sink in when Anne keeps reading it to you while you drive through rush hour traffic.

the phantom's apprentice by heather webbNovel (in ebook): The Phantom’s Apprentice by Heather Webb

I’m joining a blog tour for this one next month and ooooh-boy is it creepy. It’s a retelling of the Phantom of the Opera that includes illusionists and lots of magic and a young woman finding her self-confidence and choosing her own path for her life.

What do you think you’ll read next?

istanbul days istanbul nights by leonard dursoNovel (in print): Istanbul Days, Istanbul Nights by Leonard Durso

This romance novel is a contemporary reimagining of Romeo and Juliet. Not my favourite play or love story by any means, I’m intrigued to see how Leonard does it. The synopsis promises the interesting and relevant issue of cultural differences in romantic relationships.

What have you recently read?

  1. Alex, Approximately sounds VERY cute, and reminds me of “She Loves Me” (musical/play; the version I saw was with Zachary Levi and Laura Benati). She falls in love with her pen-pal, and constantly fights with her fellow shop employee, and then she finds out *he’s* the pen pal. IT’S GLORIOUS.

What are you currently reading? Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. 😀

What did you recently finish reading? The first in a series of loosely connected Supernatural novelizations. I’m so mad because I’ve been wanting to read them for a while, and I got this first one for Christmas, and it was awful. It was so poorly written and like the author had no grasp of the actual characters on the show. UGH. Looks like most of the rest of the series are by different authors, so hopefully they’re much less terrible!!

What do you think you’ll read next? probably Order of the Phoenix, annnd maybe one of the shiny new books I got for Christmas? Undecided!
