I felt like I was in a bit of a reading slump for a few weeks, but after camping this past weekend, I’ve jumped right back into reading. I finished two books on Saturday and have already started in on some new ones. It’s a good feeling to be back in the swing of things. I’ve also decided to listen to audio books on my lunch break as often as possible so I can go for a walk and read at the same time. Summer is a time to get away from my desk and move a little more!

when dimple met rishiNovel (in audio): When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon

Oh my goodness! I’m only an hour and a half in and I’m loving this book. Dimple is fabulous. Rishi rubbed me the wrong way at the beginning, but he’s growing on me. I can’t wait for my commute to read more.

Hoo-boy! I’ve heard really good things about this one. I’m only a few pages in, but it is hilarious already. A middle-aged couple decide to make a porno film to get some quick cash. It doesn’t work out quite the way they anticipate.

What did you recently finish reading?

the life and deaths of blanche neroNovel (in print): The Life and Deaths of Blanche Nero by Ken Brigham

This book was quite somber. Melancholy, really. But it had a lovely arc and a beautiful conclusion. I’ll be reviewing it next week, so come back on Monday to get my full thoughts.

LOVE. Love, love, love, love, love. This play is brilliantly written. It is funny. It is sweet. It is real. I would love to see it staged. Full review to come on Friday.

What do you think you’ll read next?

lilli de jong by janet bentonNovel (in digital): Lilli de Jong  by Janet Benton

I participated in a book blast for this novel in May and thought it sounded so neat, I signed up for the review tour. I’m planning on reading it next and reviewing it next month. It’s historical fiction and sounds like an engaging read: “A young woman finds the most powerful love of her life when she gives birth at an institution for unwed mothers in 1883 Philadelphia. She is told she must give up her daughter to avoid a life of poverty and shame. But she chooses to keep her.”

  1. I finished reading Soar by Phoebe on Wattpad. I recommend it. Nice dragon story
I finished reading A Midwife’s Tale, the Life of Martha Ballard based on her diary from 1785-1812. She birthed 814 babies in Maine in that time. Only 5 maternal deaths, which is contrary to what history has written about midwives.
