Woot! I’m trying out a new meme. Welcome to my first WWW Wednesday post. This meme is hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I discovered it through Larkin @ Wonderfilled Reads. The purpose of WWW Wednesday is to update each other on what we’re reading. Just answer the three questions below and link your post at Sam’s. No blog, no problem! Just answer the questions in the comments. 🙂

Okay – here goes!

The Three W’s are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

I’m doing what I said I wouldn’t – and reading multiple books at once! Ah! I’m really enjoying them both, though. And they are quite different (both in format and in genre).

Novel (in print): Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

This novel is so sassy! It’s a heist novel, with the required crew of super interesting characters. But, it’s also a fantasy novel, so has some cool elements you don’t always find in heist stories. I’m loving it so far and can’t wait to see what happens – who puts their foot in their mouth and who on the crew ends up injuring who. There is some mad tension! It’s fantastic. 🙂

Graphic Novel: Lumberjanes, Vol. 1: Beware the Kitten Holy by Noelle Stevenson

Summer camp for girls (sorry – for hardcore lady-types), complete with magical quest. Um, yes please! I loved Noelle’s Nimona and this series is looking to be a treat just like that one.

What did you recently finish reading?

wayfarer by alexandra brackenIn print: Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken

The ending of this duology was lovely. Just… lovely. It took me ages to read this book (February was a weird month for me…), but I’m so glad I finally finished it. It was twisty and turny and full of surprises and so many intriguing historical details. If you like time travel, intrigue, warring families, and a little bit of romance then pick up Passenger and Wayfarer.

Cover to Eligible by Chris SittenfeldIn audio: Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld

You all know my love for anything Pride and Prejudice. This modern retelling was so much fun! Curtis definitely took some licence and tweaked some details but it all worked. And it was hilarious and really engaging. My commute is a lot less fun since I finished this book. I find myself leaving the parking garage at work and wanting to spend more time with Liz and Darcy. I will admit though, the narrator wasn’t my favourite. She emphasized some words and phrases differently than I would have if I’d been reading the text myself.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh BardugoNovel (in print): Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

Both books in this duology showed up under my tree on Christmas morning which means I don’t have to wait between books! I’m usually the girl who takes months to read the next book in a series, even if they are out, because I’m waiting for it to come in at the library or haven’t picked it up from the store yet. Here’s hoping that once I finished Six of Crows I want to stay with Kaz and his crew for a while more!

Graphic Novel: Once I’ve finished Lumberjanes volume one, I’ll move on to volumes two, three and four. I’ve got them all sitting next to me.

In audio: The Selection by Kiera Cass

I’ve heard mixed things about this book, but I thought the synopsis looked intriguing (despite the covers which, though they have pretty gowns on them really don’t make me want to pick these books up…). I just downloaded it from my library and will see if I like it. I’m wary of the possibility of a love-triangle though, so we’ll see how long this one lasts.

What are you currently reading? What have you recently read? Have you read any of the books I’ve listed? Let me know! Leave a link to your WWW Wednesday in the comments below!

  1. I am currently reading a Jeffry Farnol, The Fool Beloved, published in 1949. In 14th Century Italy the Duchess is surrounded by intrigue and sudden death by poison. The man her father betrothed her to when she was a child is supposedly murdered, and he dresses as the court jester to solve the crimes, woo her heart for real (not relying on a bridal pact) and restore her to power.
Also The Sky Between by Phoebe Ava on Write On. As a marriage gift, the fairy princess asks her fiancee for a trip into the forbidden world below. He loves her too much to keep her captive, but I don’t know what happens… Does she return? Is she eaten by monsters? Stay tuned….
Ms. Ava also has a story called Soar which I want her to finish before Write On goes off line. A slave and her wise dragon friend escape into a land where they have to fight for the right to be together. Things are really heating up just now.

  2. Currently reading: Throne of Glass by Sarah J Mass, The Message, and sort of re-reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (and by sort of I mean I read three chapters a month and a half ago, and it’s sitting on my nightstand patiently waiting for me but I keep reading other stuff first. XD)

Recently finished: “My True Love Gave to Me” holidays stories compilation, which was pretty much a bunch of tiny Christmas chick flicks in one, and it was GREAT for that reason, haha. (Some of the stories were fab, some not so much, but still a worthy read)

Read next: I pretty much never know what I’m going to read next until I’m standing in front of my shelf, staring at everything, deciding what mood I’m in. I tend to enjoy mixing it up – if I just finished a “heavy” or “thick” book, I want some light. Maybe a different genre than what I just finished, maybe a different series, etc. My TBR is lengthy. XD That all being said, there’s a few near the top of my list, like: The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch, Clockwork Angel by Cassanda Clare, and The Revenge of Seven by Pittacus Lore.

    • I plan on reading specific things but inevitably end up reading whatever I feel like reading. 🙂 I highly recommend The Republic of Thieves!

  3. I’m so excited for both Lumberjanes and Nimona! I read The Selection and found it just okay, but left me curious enough to keep the rest of the series on my TBR list!

    • I’m enjoying Lumberjanes so much! And Nimona is hilarious. I want more of her! As for The Selection, I’m seriously tempted to DNF it and start a new audiobook on my commute tomorrow.
